Description

Letters from Civil War soldier John E. Warren to his parents and to his sister Emma discussing the course of his life as a soldier and reacting to news at home. Warren, a bugler in a cavalry regiment, lived on South Franklin St. in East Randolph, now Holbrook. Also included are some letters to John from his family; John wrote some letters on the back of other letters from home that he had received. The collection also contains one poem cut out from an 1864 newspaper about soldiers receiving mail. Topics Warren discusses include the daily life of a soldier, descriptions of specific battles and of the Civil War South, descriptions of Warren's time in a military hospitals, many descriptions of the available food, and requests for supplies or money from his family.
