Ebenezer Alden House: site of new Stetson High School building
Title
Ebenezer Alden House: site of new Stetson High School building
Description
The Dr. Ebenezer Alden house was located at 49 South Main St. Alden had the home built for himself and his wife Anne Kimball in 1817. Slaves are rumored to have been hidden and cared for in the cellar of the building before the Civil War. In 1908, this home was moved to Woodlawn Rd. in two pieces to make way for the Stetson High School building, which would later become the Town Hall. As of 1989, the two houses still stood as 41 Woodlawn Rd. (owned by the Rose family) and 43 Woodlawn Rd. (owned by the Deane family). This photograph of the house is captioned "Site of New Stetson High School Building". This image may have been published in the Stetson Oracle or a similar magazine ca. 1915; a page from that publication is preserved as the RHC's original copy.
