Title

Hunt House

Description

This house, after which Hunt's Hill was named, was located at the intersection of Routes 28 and 138. It was originally owned by Moses Littlefield, son of one of the first Braintree residents to settle along the Blue Hill River. The house then passed to Joshua Hunt, husband of Littlefield's daughter Beulah. Hunt was a farmer and reputedly a toll-taker for the Boston and Taunton Turnpike. The house fell into disrepair sometime between 1880 and 1910; by the time this photo was taken in 1912, it had become dilapidated. The house was eventually razed so a Holiday Inn could be constructed, while Hunt's Hill was leveled and the dirt was taken away to be used in constructing runways at Logan Airport. This image has been colorized, likely through hand-tinting. Information about the Hunt House has been written on the front and back of the postcard.
