The Spirit of Randolph, Massachusetts
Title
The Spirit of Randolph, Massachusetts
Description
The Spirit of Randolph, Massachusetts was a pursuit plane purchased with war bonds sold during a campaign sponsored by the Randolph Victory Committee; the schools of Randolph were heavily involved in the war bond campaign, which also included junk drives. Buy-A-Bomber campaigns were common during World War II; communities could band together to "purchase" a bomber, pursuit plane, or medevac plane, with the plane purchased depending on the amount of war bonds raised. Some of these planes never actually existed, with airplane manufacturers superimposing the name of the sponsoring town onto a generic photo of an airplane of the correct model. It's not known if the Spirit of Randolph ever existed outside this photo.
